Apple announced the iPhone 12 models at a virtual event:
The iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will go on sale this month while the 12 mini and 12 Pro Max will follow in November.
Apple is releasing a regular and a Pro edition of the new iPhone, both of which have a 6.1-inch screen.
There is also a larger version of the iPhone 12 Pro, with a 6.7-inch display.
Due to thinner screen edges, the device is more compact than previous devices. A ceramic layer over the screen should ensure that the smartphone is also less likely to be scratched or damaged. Cameras, chip and magnet
The iPhone 12 Pro line features three cameras on the back of the device. These have ultrawide, wide-angle and telephoto lenses with a resolution of 12 megapixels.
The regular iPhones 12 only have wide-angle and ultrawide.
Special hardware in the Pro devices ensures that the camera moves a bit when taking photos. This keeps the image stable and photos sharper.
A LiDAR sensor helps the Pro phones to see depth, for augmented reality. The smartphones contain the new Apple A14 Bionic chip, which should be 50 percent faster than the fastest smartphone chips. According to Apple, the iPhones 12 also work on faster 5G networks.
In the back of the iPhone 12 is a magnet, which can be used to connect a special, wireless magnetic charger. In addition, it is possible to attach special accessories, such as covers or storage compartments for payment cards.
